Placement: Check

Placement invitation finally in hand, I figured it's about time to get this blog online. It has been almost seven months exactly since I filed my initial application on July 3rd. I know most volunteers would call that a quick turnaround, but I've definitely felt my impatience tested. After a flurry of doctor/dentist visits, a scramble for missing x-rays, and an unexpected mouthguard order, I can finally see the light.

And I couldn't be happier. Last week, the education placement desk called to let me know that my initial, target placement in Eastern Europe / Central Asia had already been filled. I felt a little put out by the unexpected hitch, but luckily, I didn't have to wait long. Just two days later, my placement officer let me know that I'd be receiving am invitation for the Asia region. Since accepting the placement, I've done all I can to read up on Indonesian history, downloaded fifty "Learning Indonesian" podcasts, and begun poring over the current cohorts' blogs

Joining the Peace Corps has been a dream of mine for a several years now. However, pressures to head straight to graduate school while the intellectual cogs were still well-oiled kept my aspirations peripheral. In hindsight I'm grateful that my plans were interrupted. I doubt that I'll find a better time in my life to benefit from such a challenge. More posts will certainly be forthcoming.
